Mobile Food Pantry

The Illinois Farm Bureau District 3 Young Leaders are hosting a Mobile Food Pantry on Wednesday, July 23rd from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Central Park in Aledo. If you are available, please stop by to help us pass out 18,000 lbs of food to over 150 families. 

Mercer County Farm Bureau Foundation Pork Chop Dinner and Bake Sale

The Mercer County Farm Bureau Foundation is holding a pork chop dinner and bake sale on Thursday, July 24th from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Aledo's Central Park. The dinner will be held in conjunction with Aledo Main Street Farmer's Market and Music in the Park. Music in the Park will feature the Majestic Jazz Group. Suggested donation on the pork chop sandwich is $4.00 and $6.00 for a meal deal that will include a sandwich, drink, and chips.

Cubs vs. Cardinals Bus Trip

The Mercer County Farm Bureau® is sponsoring a bus trip to Wrigley Field in Chicago to watch the Chicago Cubs take on the St. Louis Cardinals. The game is on Saturday, July 26th and begins at 3:05 p.m. The cost to attend is $100 per person which will include bus transportation as well as a ticket to the game. We have reserved great seats for this long standing rivalry!

Prime Timers Luncheon

The Mercer County Farm Bureau Prime Timers will be meeting on Tuesday, July 29th, for a luncheon at the Packinghouse in Galesburg. The guest speaker will be Craig Vivian, a bee enthusiast and teacher at Monmouth College. Prime Timers is for Farm Bureau members age 55 and older. Illinois Farm Bureau Commodities Conference

The Illinois Farm Bureau’s annual Commodities Conference is being held on Wednesday, July 30th, at the Marriott Hotel in Normal.  An excellent agenda has been developed for this event, with details found in the July issue of the Mercer County Farm Bureau News.  Anyone interested in attending the Commodities Conference should contact the Farm Bureau office by Friday, July 18th.

Ag in a Day Teacher Workshops

The Mercer County Farm Bureau along with the Henry, Knox, Stark, and Warren-Henderson County Farm Bureau's hosted "Ag in a Day" teacher workshops. The workshops were held on June 10th in Coal Valley and June 11th in Aledo. The teachers could either come to one day or both days depending on their interest and availability. The teachers received lots of door prizes and free resources to make incorporating agriculture into their curriculum a little easier. 

Great Crop at Crop Market Outlook with Dr. Steve Johnson

Sixty-five farmers attended the "Crop Market Outlook: Strategies, Tools, & The New Farm Program" with Dr. Steve Johnson on Tuesday, June 24th. The program was held at the Aledo VFW and kicked off with a delicious meal. Following the meal, Dr. Johnson gave a crop price outlook, discussed the use of strategies & tools, gave an ARC vs PLC overview, discussed base acreage allocation, and various enrollment strategies.
